I have had the pleasure to see what is happening in schools in Canada in two provinces, Alberta and British Columbia and both at the elementary school level and it really is quite amazing at the differences in the two provinces. The one that I am more closer to in knowledge is in Alberta, where education is mixed with the social aspect of the internet as well as hands on experience of learning.

What I am noting is that even with all the education and learning that the teachers and educators are going through, there are some issues that need to be addressed before one can think of helping kids become more fulfilled and "happy".

All the positive psychology will not help in a school setting when a child has been neglected or abused in the home or there was no food for a healthy breakfast or even worse situations and what I am seeing is an increase of the above situations happening at an alarming rate.

I am in total agreement with the theory of free schools and open learning and I agree that shoving anything down a child's throat is very counter productive, but before we can get to the notion of learning, loving and enthusiasm, we also need to be practical and start solving in a better way the issues that are holding teachers back from doing their jobs and more importantly stopping the children from being able to be the best they can be?

Sometimes it is like - which came first the chicken or the egg philosophy. I feel that we are ( you, me and many others) all on the same side, just coming from different directions.

Look forward to seeing you in the middleDiane Bjorlinghttp://blognetawards.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4150731131423037282.post-27558278254808047702010-08-12T06:33:47.000+02:002010-08-12T06:33:47.000+02:00Love this reply... got to nip out, but coming back...Love this reply... got to nip out, but coming back to it :-)Paul Simbeck-Hampsonhttp://simbeckhampson.comnoreply@blogger.com
